Burn View is an ideal setting for a cosy winter break or a romantic weekend.
In the morning you can enjoy a crisp morning walk and enjoy the frequent sight of pockets of mist rising from the woodlands giving the valley an eerie ambience.
We decorate the house at the beginning of November with icicle lights and winter greenery. The Derwent Room will have decorative flowers or a seasonal arrangement to make you feel ‘at home’.
The Derwent Walk, Chopwell Woods
and Gibside Estate are a paradise for amateur and professional photographers. The deer are less shy in the cold weather and the valley’s birds flock to our garden.- recent sightings include Greater Spotted and Green Woodpeckers, kestrels and hawks.
Our local garden centre at Lintzford is beautifully decked out with Christmas decorations for home and garden. You can enjoy meandering alongside the river and gazing at the Highland cattle – the bull with the upside –down horns goes by the name of Buster.
For those with children Tanfield Railway offers a nostalgic steam trip to visit Santa. (Please telephone to ask about our arrangements for children).
Returning home to Burn View in winter you are guaranteed a warm and welcoming greeting. Scented candles, cosy fires and Burn View mulled wine all add to the warm glow of winter evenings.
At bedtime, snuggle down, with a mug of hot chocolate, into your soft bed in the centrally heated Derwent Room. There’re extra blankets and a furry hot water bottle for additional warmth but we’re sure you won’t need it!
