Derwent Room
The Derwent Room is to the rear of the house and overlooks the dovecote. It is a light airy room which catches the evening sunlight. Burn View was known locally as the ‘half hoose’ up until the 1970’s because of its ‘thin’ appearance caused by its double frontage but single-room depth. The proportions of the house are now more ‘balanced’ by the careful addition of a large kitchen, additional bedrooms (including the Derwent Room) and conservatory.
The Derwent Room offers a comfortable double bed made up with white cotton sheets, ‘non-feather’ pillows and duvet and a cream silk damask throw.
The central heating is thermostatically controlled from the radiator and hot water bottles provide extra cosiness on winter evenings while fans are available to keep you cool on hot summer nights. The various lights allow you to change the ‘mood’ A wall-light on a small landing beside a chair which provides a cosy reading space.
Our hospitality tray offers a wide selection of teas (including English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Assam and Fruit tea), coffee and original and flavoured hot chocolates. We can provide de-caffinated tea and coffee if required. In addition, instant soup, biscuits, snacks and bottled waters are available in your room.
The digital TV has an integral DVD player and we are happy to lend you a DVD from our collection. (You can find a list of titles in your Guest Information Book). We are happy to allow you complimentary access and use of our wireless internet connection.
After unpacking, guests can enjoy the early evening sunset and the views over gardens to Barmoor Fell in the distance, with a glass of sherry or a ‘cuppa’ before setting out for an evening meal, to enjoy the night-life and entertainment of Newcastle, Durham or the Metro-Centre or settling down for a quiet evening in our guest lounge or curling up in front of the TV.
The en-suite bathroom is decorated in 1920’s style. You can relax in our corner spa bath. The lighting is controllable and scented tea-lights offer an additional glow. You will have ample fluffy towels and luxury toiletries.
